Dink Patience Reset

Get back to soft, low dinks instead of forcing the point after one pop-up.

The routine

  1. 1Name what happened: "too high" or "too early", nothing more.
  2. 2One breath out while you get back to the kitchen line.
  3. 3Soften your grip — about a three out of ten.
  4. 4Set your rule for the next rally: stay low until they give you a ball above the net.
  5. 5Ready position, paddle up.

Cues

Self-talk cue
“Low and patient.”
Breath pattern
One long breath out on the way back to the line.
Physical anchor
Loosen your grip on purpose before the next serve.
Reflection
Did I speed up because the ball was attackable, or because I was impatient?

When & how to use it

When: Right after you pop a dink up or speed up a ball that was not ready to attack.

Practice it: In dinking drills, count ten low dinks in a row before anyone may speed up.
