🥎 Slow-Pitch Softball · 20s reset
Afraid It Happens Again
Stop playing the next pitch against the last one, at the plate or in the field.
The routine
- 1Catch the "not again" thought and label it: that was last pitch, this is a new one.
- 2Step out (or reset your feet in the field) and take one slow breath.
- 3Swap the fear for a job: "see it early" at the plate, "feet first" in the field.
- 4Set up the same way you do when you are playing well.
- 5Say your job once and let the pitch come.
Cues
Self-talk cue
“New pitch. Do my job.”
Breath pattern
One breath in for four, out for six, before you step back in.
Physical anchor
Re-set your feet or re-grip the bat before every pitch.
Reflection
Was I playing this pitch, or still playing the last one?
When & how to use it
When: After a strikeout, an error, or a bad at-bat, when you notice "please don’t let it happen again."
Practice it: In practice, after any miss, say the job cue out loud before the next rep. Repeat until it runs on its own.
