Spin Loft
Spin loft is the angle between the dynamic loft of the face and the attack angle at impact. It is the primary driver of spin and a key lever for controlling distance and flight.
A larger spin loft creates more spin and a higher, shorter shot; a smaller spin loft produces a flatter, longer, lower-spinning one. Players reduce spin loft to flight the ball down or maximize driver distance (high dynamic loft with a positive attack angle keeps spin loft moderate), and increase it to stop wedges quickly. It unifies attack angle and dynamic loft into the one number that explains spin.
Example — On a launch monitor
A driver with 14° dynamic loft and a +3° attack angle has an 11° spin loft — low enough for an efficient, low-spin launch.

- Spin RateSpin rate is how fast the ball spins after impact, in revolutions per minute. It controls how the ball climbs, holds the air, and stops on landing.
- Dynamic LoftDynamic loft is the actual loft presented by the face at impact — not the loft stamped on the club. It is the main driver of how high the ball launches.
- Attack AngleAttack angle is the vertical direction the clubhead is moving at impact. Negative means hitting down on the ball; positive means hitting up.
