Chancletazo
Also known as: chancletazo, chancletazo padel, what is a chancletazo, chancletazo shot
A chancletazo is a flat, aggressive forehand that finishes the point. You hit it from very close to the net when you get an easy, high ball on your forehand. The name is Spanish for a whack with a big flip-flop. It refers to the slapping sound and the swing.
The chancletazo is a put-away shot. It comes when you are right up at the net and the opponents send you a sitter on the forehand side.
You meet the ball high and in front, with a short, flat slap of the racket. The aim is to end the rally, usually down at the opponents' feet or into an open gap.
The name is a joke from Spanish padel. 'Chancla' is a flip-flop, and a 'chancletazo' is a whack with one. Players say the shot sounds and looks like that slap.
Tips by skill level
Keep the swing short. A compact slap is easier to control than a big hit.
Aim at the feet of the nearer opponent or the gap between the pair. Depth into the glass can give them a second chance.
Example
Diego is tight to the net when a weak ball floats to his forehand. He slaps a flat chancletazo between the opponents to finish the point.
Why it matters
Finishing easy balls wins matches. The chancletazo is the clean put-away that rewards good net position.
Common mistakes
- Swinging big and missing an easy put-away
- Hitting it too long into the back glass, where it can be returned
- Trying it from mid-court instead of close to the net
- Taking it when the ball is low, below the net
