Drop Shot
Also known as: dejada, drop
A Drop Shot in padel is a softly struck, low-bouncing shot designed to fall just over the net and die before reaching the back glass, pulling opponents in and disrupting their defensive positioning.
Because padel rewarded deep lobs and back-glass rebounds for so long, the drop shot is a relatively underused weapon that catches opponents off guard when executed well. Struck with backspin and a soft touch from the midcourt or net zone, it should bounce twice before the side glass and force opponents to sprint forward — an uncomfortable transition that often leads to a weak ball to put away. It requires disguise (same preparation as a drive) and delicate feel. The risk: mishit or land it too high and opponents walk in and attack with ease.
Example
Disguising the stroke as a parallel drive, the player opens the racket face at the last instant and floats a backspin drop shot just beyond the net tape; the opponents, positioned at the back, cannot reach it in time.
Why it matters
The drop shot breaks the rhythmic back-glass pattern that many players rely on. SwingVantage detects shot selection variety and can flag over-reliance on a single pattern.
