Topspin Lob

Also known as: globo con efecto, kick lob

A Topspin Lob is a lob struck with forward topspin so that after clearing the net players, it dips quickly and then accelerates and kicks off the turf and back glass, making it much harder to smash than a flat defensive lob.

Topspin causes the ball to drop faster out of its arc (making it harder to intercept at the apex) and then to kick forward and low off the back glass rather than sitting up. This dual challenge — difficult overhead timing plus an awkward rebound — makes the topspin lob one of padel's most effective attacking weapons when hit correctly. The technique requires an open racket face rising through impact with a low-to-high brushing motion, similar to a heavy-topspin forehand in tennis. Consistency demands a good technical foundation; beginners often mishit and give the net pair an easy smash.

Rising from a defensive position, the player brushes hard up the back of the ball, sending a topspin lob that dips inside the baseline and kicks sharply off the back glass — the opponents cannot time the rebound.

Why it matters

The topspin lob adds an offensive dimension to defensive positions. SwingVantage checks your swing path angle and contact point to distinguish topspin lobs from flat ones.
