Trasferimento dall'Allenamento

Definition

Beginner tip

At the end of each practice bucket, take the last 10 balls and "play" an imaginary hole with them. This means pick a target for a driver (first ball), imagine the result, pick a second target for a fairway wood or iron approach (second ball), then chip and putt the remaining balls to a specific green target. This 10-ball simulation at the end of every session builds decision-making habits that block practice never develops.

Advanced note

Structure your practice in a 20/80 split. This means use the first 20% of balls for block technical practice (grooving a specific change you are working on) and the remaining 80% for random or simulated practice with varied clubs, targets, and situations. Track your score in the simulated section (how many "holes" did you make your target number) to add measurement and accountability to the higher-transfer portion of practice.

Example

How it shows up on video

Practice transfer quality is not directly observable in video. But indicators of high-transfer practice sessions are visible in video of the session itself. This means varied clubs and targets across successive shots, full pre-shot routines performed before each shot, single attempts at specific targets (versus repeated attempts to the same spot). The golfer engaging in decision-making behavior (reading conditions, selecting targets) similar to on-course decision-making.

Common mistakes

  • Practicing exclusively in block format (hitting buckets of the same shot) and then wondering why scores do not improve. This means block practice builds specific technical skills but does not develop the on-course skills of club selection, target commitment, and single-attempt execution.
  • Not using a pre-shot routine in practice — every practice shot should be preceded by the full pre-shot routine to be used on the course. Range practice without a routine does not develop the routine confidence needed under pressure.
  • Practicing only from perfect mat lies — range mats provide consistent, perfect lies that do not exist on most courses. Practicing from grass, unusual lies, and varied conditions produces higher transfer than mat practice alone.
  • Assessing practice quality by how the session felt versus by on-course score trends. This means a practice session that feels productive (many good shots in a row from block practice) may produce lower transfer than a session that felt uneven (random practice with varied results). Score trends over weeks and months reveal which practice formats produce transfer.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage can observe practice format traits from video. This means in particular whether the session involves block (same shot repeated) versus random (varied shots) practice, and whether full pre-shot routines are used. These contextual observations inform the expected transfer value of technical improvements observed in the session, noting that technical improvements in block practice contexts have limited guarantee of course transfer.
