Slow-Pitch Softball Benchmarks

ranges for slow-pitch softball hitters. The pitch must be lofted on a high and arrives descending steeply, so the swing works upward to match that descent — which is why the launch-angle and bat-speed norms below differ from fast-pitch and from baseball.

What Each Metric Means

Exit Velocity (mph)
in slow pitch softball. Higher compression balls and end-loaded bats allow for higher numbers.
Launch Angle (degrees)
Ideal slow pitch launch angle for line drives is 8–20°. Below that is a groundball; above is a pop-up risk.
Attack Angle (degrees)
How steeply the bat travels upward at contact. Slow pitch runs markedly steeper than baseball or fast pitch because it has to match a ball falling on a high arc — a level swing under-matches the descent and costs carry.
Bat Speed (mph)
Barrel speed at contact. Slow pitch allows a longer swing to develop bat speed before contact.
