Punto ng Tama

Also known as: point of contact, impact zone

Definition

Beginner tip

Use a tee in three positions. This means front corner, middle, and back corner of the plate. This means and practice hitting each location in particular. As a result, your body learns to find the correct contact point instinctively.

Advanced note

Film 10 inside-pitch contacts and 10 outside-pitch contacts and measure the horizontal contact point variance on video. This means consistent contact mapping means your body is adjusting correctly. High variance means you're defaulting to a single contact depth regardless of pitch location.

Example

How it shows up on video

Mark the contact point on video by freeze-framing at the exact moment the ball and bat meet. This means confirm the horizontal distance from the plate edge and the vertical height versus expected pitch height. Inside pitch contacts appearing behind or even with the front of the plate confirm the hitter is arriving too late. Outside pitch contacts appearing in front of the lead hip confirm early extension that pulls the barrel off the pitch plane. A well-managed contact map shows inside contacts in front of the plate and outside contacts even with or behind the lead hip.

Common mistakes

  • Meeting every pitch at the same contact depth regardless of its horizontal location, producing off-the-end contact on outside pitches and jammed contact on inside pitches
  • Letting an inside pitch travel to the middle contact depth before swinging, producing a roll-over grounder instead of a pulled line drive
  • Making contact on outside pitches in front of the lead hip, which requires the hands to extend early and produces weak opposite-field contact without power
  • Not adjusting the depth of contact for a two-strike count, reducing contact efficiency when zone coverage expansion is most needed

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

Motion Lab triangulates the exact 3D contact point and compares it to pitch entry location, confirming whether the hitter is adjusting their contact depth correctly for different pitch locations or defaulting to a single fixed contact zone.

Frequently asked questions
