Motion Lab is the browser-based 3D motion analysis tool in SwingVantage that turns your video into a three-dimensional avatar and timeline, letting you rotate, scrub, and measure your swing without any installed software.

Motion Lab runs entirely in the browser using on-device pose estimation and a WebGL 3D renderer. After processing your video, it displays a rigged 3D avatar that mirrors your detected body movement, with a frame-by-frame timeline, angle overlays, and sport-specific fault annotations. You can rotate the avatar to view the swing from any angle. This means down-the-line, face-on, or top. This means even if your video was only recorded from one direction. The analysis inside Motion Lab is deterministic first: angles and sequence findings come from the rules engine; AI depth is optional.

Beginner tip

Start with the 3D avatar rotation feature after upload: rotate from face-on to down-the-line view even if your video was recorded from only one angle. The reconstructed 3D view often reveals issues that are invisible in the original single-camera footage.

Advanced note

Use the custom angle measurement tool in Motion Lab to measure specific joint angles not included in the standard analysis output. For unusual fault patterns, a custom angle at a specific frame can provide data the standard engine does not report.

After uploading a face-on tennis video, Motion Lab renders a 3D avatar that can be rotated to a down-the-line view, revealing a late racquet drop that was hard to see in the original footage.

Why it matters

Seeing your movement in 3D from any angle is more informative than a single-camera clip and was previously possible only in pro labs.

How it shows up on video

The first view of your upload in Motion Lab shows the skeleton overlay on the video. Before looking at any metrics, scrub to the impact frame and check whether the skeleton joints align with your visible body position. This means this five-second check tells you whether to trust the analysis before reading any numbers.

Common mistakes

  • Looking at the metrics panel before verifying the skeleton overlay is tracking correctly — a misaligned skeleton produces confident-looking but meaningless numbers.
  • Using only the face-on view without rotating to down-the-line — the 3D avatar rotation is the core differentiator; skipping it means missing half the diagnostic information.
  • Treating the first playback as the full analysis. This means the timeline, phase breakdowns, and angle annotations reveal much more than the initial video view and require deliberate exploration.
  • Uploading a second video before fully reviewing the first. This means the information density in a single Motion Lab session is high. Reviewing thoroughly is more valuable than adding more videos quickly.
