Dormilona
Also known as: dormilona, dormiloña, what is a dormilona, dormilona padel, dormilona shot
A dormilona is an attacking drop shot hit with slice. You play it after the ball has come off your own back glass and bounced back toward the net. You stay forward and drop the ball just over the net instead of hitting deep. It catches opponents who have stayed back or drifted away from the net.
The dormilona is a touch shot. It starts like a defensive moment. The ball comes off your back glass and carries forward toward the net. Instead of lobbing or driving it, you meet it and slice it short.
The ball should land just over the net and die low. That forces the opponents to sprint forward. It works best when they are deep in their court.
It is a disguise shot. If the opponents read it, they reach it early and can put it away. Players mix it with deep shots so the drop stays a surprise.
Tips by skill level
Learn to let the ball come off the back glass calmly before you try any touch shot from it.
Show a drive or lob shape, then soften your grip at the last moment. Disguise is what makes the dormilona win points.
Example
The opponents hit hard into Lola's back glass and drift back. She lets the ball come off the glass and float forward, then slices a dormilona just over the net.
Why it matters
A good dormilona punishes opponents who hang back. It also turns a hard ball into a soft one they did not expect.
Common mistakes
- Playing it when the opponents are already at the net
- Hitting it too high, so it sits up for a volley
- Giving it away by setting up early
- Using it so often that the opponents wait for it
