Drive e Attacco a Rete (Shake and Bake)

Also known as: shake-and-bake attack, drive-and-poach

Definition

Beginner tip

As the poaching partner, start moving toward the net the moment your partner's paddle makes contact with the third-shot drive. This means not after you see where the block goes.

Advanced note

Drill the shake-and-bake with a partner using a ball machine for the fourth-shot block. This means one partner drives and stays ready, the other moves on contact and practices attacking blocks to three different zones.

Example

How it shows up on video

SwingVantage tracks the poaching partner's position at the moment the fourth shot is contacted by the opponent, confirming whether they had closed within range for an effective put-away or were still behind the transition zone.

Common mistakes

  • The poaching partner waiting to see where the block goes before starting to move, arriving late to the put-away opportunity
  • Driving the third shot without pace or depth, allowing the opponent to block from a comfortable position rather than being rushed
  • The driving partner failing to stay ready for a counter if the drive is returned aggressively
  • Using shake-and-bake against a disciplined kitchen team who resets low drops rather than popping up blocks

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

Motion Lab tracks the poaching partner's movement initiation timing relative to the third-shot drive contact, identifying shake-and-bake attempts where the advance started too late to capitalize on the expected block.
