Also known as: エンドロードバット

Definition

Tips by skill level

Beginner tip

Start with a balanced bat and develop consistent bat speed and contact quality first. End load amplifies what you already do — if you are hitting the ball solidly with a balanced bat, end load can add distance. If you are not hitting it well, end load will make things worse.

Advanced note

Test end load back-to-back: one session with your balanced bat, one with the end-loaded version. Compare exit velocity and contact rate on center cuts versus inside pitches. If exit velocity rises on center cuts but contact rate drops inside, the end load may be slightly too heavy for your swing tempo.

Example

Why it matters

How it shows up on video

Watch barrel speed and timing on mis-hit balls. With an end-loaded bat that is too heavy, the barrel drags — contact moves toward the handle and drives shift toward the pull side. Consistent exit velocity on center-cut balls but weak late contact on inside pitches suggests the end load is working. Persistent late contact on all pitches suggests it is too heavy.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing an end-loaded bat based on marketing rather than testing at match speed. The exit-velocity benefit only appears if bat speed is maintained throughout the swing.
  • Using an end load that is too heavy for the hitter's strength level. This causes late contact and weaker pull hits instead of the hard contact expected.
  • Assuming end load automatically adds distance. It only does so on squared-up contact. Mis-hits with an end-loaded bat lose more distance than they would with a balanced bat.
  • Ignoring the league's sanctioned bat list — end-loaded hot bats from other leagues may exceed BPF limits and be illegal.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

Motion Lab reads each swing from pose and may show a rough bat-speed estimate. But it does not track contact quality or fatigue across an at-bat. Compare that estimate across swings with different bats, filmed the same way.

Frequently asked questions
