Podważanie

Also known as: dodawanie loftu w uderzeniu, podnoszenie piłki łopatą

Definition

Podważanie to instynktowna próba „pomożenia piłce wzbić się w powietrze” poprzez flipnięcie nadgarstków w górę w momencie uderzenia — dodaje loft, zmniejsza kompresję i daje słaby, wysoki, krótki kontakt.

Podważanie to ruch polegający na dodawaniu loftu do kija w momencie uderzenia poprzez zgięcie nadgarstka dłoni wiodącej do tyłu (cupping) i wypchnięcie główki kija do przodu, podczas gdy rączka kija pozostaje w tyle.

Beginner tip

To feel the anti-scoop: hit 7-iron shots with your trail hand removed from the grip, using only your lead hand. The lead hand naturally maintains its position and does not scoop. This means this one-armed drill builds the feeling of the lead hand leading through impact that is the foundation of eliminating the scoop.

Advanced note

Use shaft lean at impact as your training target: film from face-on and measure the shaft lean angle at impact for multiple shots. Any backward lean (shaft leaning away from target) is scooping. Gradually increase forward shaft lean to the 4–8° range for mid-irons. This uses the video feedback to calibrate. This means this gives you objective progress data rather than relying on feel alone.

Example

How it shows up on video

From a face-on camera angle, scooping is visible at impact as the lead wrist visibly cupping. This means bending backward away from the forearm. This means and the shaft leaning backward (toward the golfer) rather than forward toward the target. The hands appear level with or behind the ball at impact. From a down-the-line angle, scooping shows as the clubhead overtaking the hands before impact, with the shaft leaning away from the target. The follow-through of a scoop often shows the club folding behind the golfer quickly, rather than extending toward the target in the early follow-through.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to "lift" the ball off the ground with the club. This means the club's loft lifts the ball. The golfer's job is to compress the ball, not to lift it. Removing this lifting instinct is the core change needed to eliminate scooping.
  • Using soft wedge shots as a crutch for scooping — some golfers discover they can produce acceptable-feeling soft shots by scooping with an open face. This works on good lies but fails on tight lies, divots, and wet conditions. Proper compression produces soft shots through controlled spin, not through loft manipulation.
  • Allowing the trail hand to "take over" at impact — the trail hand flipping through impact is the mechanical description of the scoop. Training the lead hand and wrist to maintain forward position through impact is the most direct correction.
  • Hitting from tight lies with unresolved scooping. This means scooping from perfect range-mat lies produces tolerable results. Scooping from tight fairway lies or links-style turf produces bladed or fat shots that cannot be recovered from. Address the scoop before playing from difficult lies.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage identifies scooping from face-on video by analyzing lead wrist position at impact and shaft lean through the impact zone. The cupped wrist and backward shaft lean of a scoop are reliably visible from face-on footage of adequate quality. The system can classify severity (minor scoop versus severe) and flag the specific impact-zone body position that is producing the scooping motion.
