When your team is having a big inning, stay calm and patient. This means the inning continues when batters work counts and make quality contact, not when they swing at everything trying to add more.
Study how opposing pitchers react to giving up runs — many get wild or start aiming. Identify those tendencies in the first inning so your lineup is prepared to capitalize.

This means early baserunners forcing defensive urgency, subsequent hits scoring multiple runners. Fielders making rushed decisions under pressure that compound the damage.
Common mistakes
- Pitchers trying to overthrow after giving up the first run, leading to more walks and hits rather than getting outs
- Defensive players panicking and making rushed throws that result in errors, extending the inning beyond its natural end
- Fielders attempting difficult plays they can't execute under pressure instead of taking the guaranteed out
- Offenses taking unnecessary risks on the bases during a big inning — manufacturing outs on the bases cuts the inning short
