Definition

Example

Why it matters

Contact point drift is easy to misdiagnose as a swing flaw when the real issue is spacing. Motion Lab rates your spacing and contact timing on each clip. As a result, compare several clips to see whether the spacing changes while the swing stays the same.

How it shows up on video

On video, compare your contact points across a rally, looking for variance in distance from the body and height relative to the hip. That variance indicates unstable footwork rather than a technical flaw.

Common mistakes

  • Tracking the ball late and guessing at spacing instead of adjusting with small final steps
  • Blaming swing mechanics for a problem that is actually footwork-driven
  • Taking one large final step to the ball instead of several small adjustment steps

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

Motion Lab rates your spacing at contact, crowded or reaching, and whether contact is early or late. It does not measure the contact point's exact distance or height. Compare strokes on video to tell an uneven swing from a sound swing meeting the ball at uneven spacing.

Frequently asked questions
