Anggulo ng Braso sa Fielding

Also known as: throwing slot, release slot, arm release angle

Definition

Beginner tip

After each fielding rep in practice, pause after the catch and consciously set your feet toward the target before throwing. This means this one habit of slowing down the transfer-to-throw transition builds the automatic footwork that protects your natural arm slot under game pressure.

Advanced note

Film your throwing slot on five different play types. This means routine grounder, back-hand, short hop, charging roller, and diving play. This means and measure whether your elbow height at peak elevation is consistent across all five. Any play type where your slot drops is revealing inadequate footwork repositioning for that specific play pattern.

Example

How it shows up on video

On video, arm slot consistency is measured by tracking the elbow's vertical position relative to the shoulder at the point of maximum arm elevation across multiple throws from different field positions. Common errors include the arm slot dropping on throws to the left or right of the natural throwing direction (requiring the fielder to "hose" the throw rather than step through it), a visible shoulder tilt that compensates for poor footwork alignment, and uneven slot height between routine and difficult plays. This means a tell that the fielder is not repositioning their feet on hard plays.

Common mistakes

  • Throwing without gathering the feet after a difficult play. This forces the arm to compensate for the body misalignment by dropping or raising the slot. This means producing an uneven flight path the catcher must adjust for
  • Practicing arm slot consistency only on routine plays during drill work without including footwork-to-difficult-play combinations. This leaves the natural slot unavailable on exactly the plays where it matters most
  • Confusing arm slot with arm angle. This means arm angle is the deliberate choice pitchers make for movement. Arm slot for fielders is the natural position that should be repeated on every throw regardless of play difficulty
  • Using a drop-down or sidearm slot on backhanded plays as an expedient without the footwork needed to make the slot repeatable. This produces occasional spectacular throws and frequent wide or short ones

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage measures the variance in elbow height at peak arm elevation across a fielding session, flagging fielders whose slot height varies more than a calibrated threshold between easy and difficult plays. The system identifies whether the slot variance is associated with footwork differences (fixable with positioning drills) or with body position at ball reception (requiring a different mechanical intervention).
