Nakayukong Pulso (Bowed)

Also known as: supinated wrist, cupped vs bowed

Definition

Beginner tip

A simple test at the top. This means if you can see your watch face, you are cupped. If it is hidden or pointing at the ground, you are flat or bowed. Aim for flat to slightly bowed.

Advanced note

Pair the position work with face feedback: foot powder or an impact sticker shows both strike location and the angle producing your flight. If you slice from a cupped position, work to neutral first and only then add curvature, checking ball flight at each stage.

Example

How it shows up on video

From face on at the top, the back of the lead hand appears to curl inward. At the same time, the clubface points toward the ground. This means closed relative to the swing plane. The opposite position shows the back of the hand arching away from the arm and the clubface pointing more skyward. From down the line, the clubface sits more parallel to the lead forearm than tilted upward.

Common mistakes

  • Adopting the position without accounting for its face-closing effect, which produces snap hooks. It has to be matched with grip or path changes, or it simply trades one ball-flight problem for another.
  • Confusing it with flat — flat is the neutral position, and this goes beyond it. A cue to flatten is not the same instruction, though some teachers use the terms interchangeably.
  • Forcing it with the hand muscles — gripping down and manually twisting into position creates tension. The bow should be a natural result of the backswing movement combined with a strong grip, not a conscious hand manipulation.
  • Applying the correction to a player who already hooks — it is a fix for open-face deliveries. A hooker with an already-closed face who adds more bow will make their miss more severe.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage can observe the position at the top from down-the-line video by relating hand orientation to clubface angle. Because these are subtle joint angles, the observations carry confidence levels reflecting video quality, and they are most reliable from clear down-the-line footage.
