Peel Drop (Bumabang Bola)

Definition

Beginner tip

Practice the peeling release slowly in front of a mirror to feel the fingers dragging up the back of the ball before attempting it at game speed.

Advanced note

Use the peel drop to attack the bottom of the zone in fastball counts. This means the fastball-like spin and arm speed sell the pitch until the late dive produces rolled-over ground balls.

Example

How it shows up on video

Look for a fastball-like release with the fingers pulling up the back of the ball as the hand passes the hip, the ball peeling straight off the fingertips. The pitch holds its line before diving down late; hitters read fastball, swing over the top, and beat it into the ground.

Common mistakes

  • Starting the peel motion too early in the arm circle rather than saving it for the release-point moment
  • Producing insufficient topspin because the fingers don't fully drag across the ball in the peeling motion
  • Turning the hand over the top at release — that produces the turnover drop, a different variant with its own timing
  • Hitters reading it as a flat fastball and swinging over the top as it dives late

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

Motion Lab identifies the peel drop's fastball-like release signature. This means fingers dragging up the back of the ball. This means and distinguishes it from the turnover drop by measuring hand position and spin-axis tilt at release.

Frequently asked questions
