Peel drop (drop pelado)

Un peel drop es una variante concreta de la drop ball en la que la lanzadora "pela" la mano hacia fuera en la suelta, impartiendo un topspin que hace que la bola rompa bruscamente hacia abajo y hacia el lado del guante.

Use the peel drop to attack the bottom of the zone in fastball counts. This means the fastball-like spin and arm speed sell the pitch until the late dive produces rolled-over ground balls.

How it shows up on video
Look for a fastball-like release with the fingers pulling up the back of the ball as the hand passes the hip, the ball peeling straight off the fingertips. The pitch holds its line before diving down late; hitters read fastball, swing over the top, and beat it into the ground.
Common mistakes
- Starting the peel motion too early in the arm circle rather than saving it for the release-point moment
- Producing insufficient topspin because the fingers don't fully drag across the ball in the peeling motion
- Turning the hand over the top at release — that produces the turnover drop, a different variant with its own timing
- Hitters reading it as a flat fastball and swinging over the top as it dives late
