Rutinitas Sebelum Pukulan

Definition

Beginner tip

Build your pre-shot routine in three simple steps. This means (1) stand behind the ball and pick a specific target, (2) walk in and aim the face at that target. At the same time, looking at it, (3) build your stance around the face and take one last look at the target before your trigger. Practice this three-step routine on every shot — range, chip, and putt — until it takes the same amount of time every time.

Advanced note

Film yourself performing your pre-shot routine from multiple angles across a session and time each step. This means total routine time should be within 3 seconds of identical across all shots. Significant timing variation reveals where the routine is not yet ingrained. This means the steps that take variable amounts of time are the ones most likely to break down under competitive pressure and should receive the most dedicated practice.

Example

How it shows up on video

Pre-shot routine consistency is observable in video of on-course play or recorded range sessions. This means in particular, whether the same sequence of physical movements (approach direction, waggle, alignment check, trigger) occurs before each shot, and whether the duration is consistent. Video comparison of multiple shots' pre-shot sequences side by side reveals whether the routine is truly consistent or varies by a lot. Routines that break down under pressure are especially revealing when comparing easy practice shots to pressure situations.

Common mistakes

  • Having a different routine on the range versus the course. This means golfers often have minimal pre-shot routines during practice (pick up a ball, hit it) but expect the more thorough on-course routine to work reliably. Practice exactly the routine you intend to use on the course.
  • Allowing the routine to become too long or complex — routines that involve too many steps become cognitively demanding themselves, reducing rather than calming mental activity. Three to five distinct steps that take 25–35 seconds is typically optimal.
  • Breaking the routine after a bad shot — the most important time to maintain the routine is after a poor result that triggers emotional response. Rushing the next shot or skipping steps in a frustrated state compounds the error with a second one.
  • Not including a consistent trigger to begin the swing. Without a specific, reproducible trigger (a look at the target, a waggle end, a forward press), the routine ends without a clear "start" signal and the golfer tends to hover over the ball waiting for the "right" feeling that may not come.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage can analyze pre-shot routine consistency from video of multiple shots — checking whether the approach direction, waggle, and timing are consistent. Significant routine variability correlates with higher mechanical variability in the swing itself. The system notes pre-shot routine observations as context for interpreting swing consistency patterns across multiple shots.
