Titik Kontak
Footwork menetapkan contact point.
Tips by skill level
Think of hitting the ball on the way down, not at the bottom. Imagine the ball's arc as a clock face — aim to make contact at around the 4 o'clock position on the descent, not at 6 o'clock (the very bottom), where the bat would have to scoop under it.
Practice adjusting your contact-point depth based on arc height. Against a high-arc pitcher (near the 10-foot limit), extend your contact point further out front. The steeper descent means the ball drops through your zone faster. A contact point that is even slightly too deep will produce pop-ups.
Example
Why it matters
How it shows up on video
From a side view, look at the barrel position relative to the front foot at the moment of contact. In an ideal contact point, the barrel is at least a foot in front of the front knee, at or above hand height, and traveling upward. Contact behind the front knee produces rolled-over grounders; contact directly over the front foot with the barrel angling downward produces pop-ups.
Common mistakes
- Contacting the ball at the back of the zone near or behind the front hip. This forces the wrists to roll early and produces weak pull-side contact.
- Leaning backward at contact to try to lift the ball. This actually tilts the swing off-axis and produces off-the-end contact and slices to the opposite field.
- Using the same contact point for all arc heights. A high-arc pitch descends more steeply and needs to be met further out front than a lower-arc pitch.
- Chopping downward to meet the descending ball, which contradicts the slight upward bat path needed to produce a solid launch angle.
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
Motion Lab estimates where contact happens relative to your body, and your bat path's angle, from your arm movement. It does not track the pitch, so it cannot link contact to where the ball was in its arc.
Frequently asked questions
Mengapa pemukul slow-pitch sering mem-pop-up bola?

- Lengkungan LemparanThe arc is the high, looping flight path a legal slow-pitch delivery must follow. USA Softball requires a peak between 6 and 10 feet (12 feet in senior play). USSSA instead requires at least 3 feet of arc above the release point and caps height at 10 feet above the ground. Hitters time their swing to the ball's descent, not its rise.
- Sudut Serangan (Pukulan)Attack angle in batting is the vertical angle of the bat path through the hitting zone. A slightly upward attack angle matches the pitch plane for hard contact. Statcast treats 5 to 20 degrees at contact as the ideal range.
