ノーマンズランド

ノーマンズランドとは、キッチンの後ろでベースラインの前にあるコートのエリアのことで、選手が足元への攻撃に最もさらされ、攻撃のレバレッジが最も少ない場所だ。
ピックルボールにおけるノーマンズランドは、トランジションゾーン——キッチンラインからサービスラインまでのおおよそのエリア——と密接に対応している。ここに立つと、選手はネットから遠すぎて効果的に攻撃できず、相手が足元をドライブできるほど近い。この用語は、このゾーンは素早く横切るべきであり、そこに陣取るべきではないということを強調している。レクリエーションレベルでは、どちらのチームも安全に前進するためのサードショットドロップのスキルを持っていないため、多くの長いラリーがこのゾーンで起こる——しかし中級以上のレベルでは、ここでうろつくことは即座に罰せられる。
The moment you realize you are stuck in no man's land, hit a high, deep reset lob to the baseline. This means it buys time to retreat and regroup rather than continuing to fight from a losing position.
From no man's land, disguise a controlled transition drop as a drive. This means same backswing, decelerate at contact. This means to make the opponent hold their position at the kitchen rather than stepping in to attack.

How it shows up on video

- Stopping in no man's land and waiting for the ball rather than either continuing to advance or retreating deliberately
- Driving flat from no man's land into a settled kitchen team, where the ball arrives at a comfortable counter height
- Retreating to the baseline after being attacked in no man's land without using the retreat as a deliberate reset
- Looking down at the ball rather than forward at opponent positions while in the transition zone
