トップスピンディンク

トップスピンディンクとは、キッチンラインでのディンクに前方回転を加えることで、ネットを越えた後素早く沈み込み、バウンドで跳ね上がるようにし、クリーンにリセットすることを難しくするショットだ。
標準的なディンクは最小限のスピンを使い、弧と配置に頼る。トップスピンディンクは、ボールに前方回転を与える低から高へのブラッシングの動きを加える。これによりボールはより速く落下し、バウンドでより高く跳ね上がり、相手にとって扱いにくい接触の高さに収まる。うまく実行されれば、相手に上昇するボールを上向きに打つことを強い、攻撃可能なリターンを作り出す。リスクは、速すぎてボールを浮かせてしまい、プットアウェイを許してしまうことだ。
トップスピンディンクのメカニクスは、標準的な押し出すディンクとは明確に異なる転換を必要とする。前方への肩の押し出しの代わりに、パドルパスはコンタクトを通して低から高へ動かなければならず、フェースはわずかに閉じた角度になる。課題は、ボールが浮いて攻撃可能になってしまうほどの勢いを生み出すことなく、沈み込む効果を作り出すのに十分なスピンを生み出すことだ。このバランス——スピン対勢い——をコントロールすることが、トップスピンディンクを上級スキルにしている。
クロスコートは、トップスピンディンクにとって2つの理由で理想的な方向だ。ネットは中央で2インチ低く、沈み込むボールに追加のクリアランスを提供する。そして対角線の距離が、スピンがボールをキッチンへ落とすためのより多くの時間を与えてくれる。サイドラインのすぐ内側の、深いクロスコートのコーナーへトップスピンディンクを練習することは、エラーの余地を最大限に保ちながら、最も大きなプレッシャーを生み出す。
Practice the topspin brush motion separately from a rally. This means focusing on the feeling of the paddle brushing up the back of the ball. This means before trying it in a live dink exchange.
Target the deep crosscourt corner where the net is lowest and the court diagonal is longest. This means this maximizes the time the topspin has to work and minimizes the risk of hitting the net.

How it shows up on video

Common mistakes
- Generating too much pace with the topspin brush so the ball pops up above net height and becomes attackable
- Using a flat swing path and relying on a closed paddle face alone, producing side-spin rather than topspin
- Attempting the topspin dink crosscourt with a ball that is already below the net, leaving no margin for error
- Overusing topspin dinks until the opponent adjusts by contacting the ball higher before it dips
