スクリューボールのスピン方向とは、リリース時に外向きに手首を回転させる動作、つまり小指を先行させて手が体から離れるようにねじる動作のことであり、カーブボールとは逆向きの垂直軸のスピンを生み出し、球を同じ利き手の打者から遠ざけるのではなく体の内側へ食い込ませる。

How it shows up on video
The hand turns outward away from the pitcher's body at release. This means the cross-body twist belongs to the curveball. This means and the resulting seam rotation viewed from the plate mirrors the curveball's pattern but breaks the opposite direction.
Common mistakes
- Beginning the outward rotation too early in the arm circle, adding stress to the forearm and elbow
- Producing insufficient outward rotation, resulting in a flat pitch with neither curve nor screwball movement
