Pitch sequencing is het doelbewuste ordenen van pitches over een at-bat heen — pitchtype, snelheid, locatie en beweging gebruiken om de reacties van een slagvrouw op te zetten en uit te buiten.
Geen enkele pitch werkt in isolatie. Een rise ball wordt effectiever na een changeup omdat de slagvrouw nu timet voor off-speed. Een drop ball binnen zet een curveball buiten op. Sequencing betekent dat elke pitch een probleem creëert dat de volgende pitch uitbuit. Elite werpsters plannen at-bats als een schaakspel, met vroege pitches als aas en late pitches als de val. Start every at-bat with a defined plan of exactly three pitches. This means a setup, a change. A strikeout pitch. This means and execute the plan before adjusting to what the hitter shows.
Keep a running mental database of hitter reactions to each sequence pattern and update your plan based on in-game feedback rather than repeating a sequence a hitter has adjusted to.
