Krachtzone

Also known as: slagzone, barrelzone

Definition

Beginner tip

Drop a batting tee to waist height and position it one foot in front of your front hip to train your power-zone contact point before taking live pitches.

Advanced note

Use video to compare your contact depth on pitches to different zones. This means inside pitches should contact roughly 12 inches in front of the hip. At the same time, outside pitches can contact 4 to 6 inches in front, and adjusting this depth by location adds significant power on all pitch locations.

Example

How it shows up on video

The power zone is most visible from a front-on camera angle. This means ideal contact shows the ball meeting the bat barrel at a point roughly 6 to 8 inches in front of the front hip, with the arms at near-full extension. Shots hit in the power zone produce a distinctly flat, explosive launch angle compared to balls hit too deep (rolled over, pulled weakly) or too far out front (looped, undercut). Watch the barrel angle at contact — power-zone contact keeps the barrel horizontal through the zone.

Common mistakes

  • Letting the ball get too deep into the hitting zone before swinging. This makes contact off the hip instead of out front and sacrificing both power and spray-angle control
  • Reaching too far out front in an attempt to pull the ball, contacting it before the hips have fully rotated and converting a power swing into an arm-dominant push
  • Not adjusting the power-zone contact point for inside versus outside pitches. This means inside pitches must be contacted further out front than away pitches to stay in the zone
  • Focusing only on launch angle and ignoring contact depth, which can lead to adjusting the swing plane while the fundamental contact point error remains unchanged

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage identifies the contact point relative to the front hip from uploaded swing video, flagging swings that contact the ball too deep (inside the optimal power zone) or too far out front as separate fault categories with distinct correction cues.
