Definition

Um toque para rebatida é uma tentativa ofensiva de chegar à base em vez de avançar uma corredora, dependendo de posicionamento e velocidade em vez de trocar um out por uma base.

Diferente de um sacrifício, a rebatedora tem a intenção total de chegar segura. Isso exige timing tardio (para que a defesa não consiga reagir e avançar cedo demais) e posicionamento preciso — perto da linha de foul do lado da terceira base, ou em direção ao lado direito vazio. Rebatedoras canhotas e slappers têm uma vantagem natural porque já começam a se mover em direção à primeira base ao sair da caixa. É uma arma que mantém as defensoras das esquinas honestas e cria espaços para o jogo de potência.

Commit to running the instant you make contact. This means speed is what turns good placement into a hit, and pausing to check gives even average fielders time to field and throw.

Advanced note

Chart your placement against both charging and standard-depth corners. This means if the third baseman plays back, go down the line inside the bag. If they play in, redirect to the first-base side and use the ground they left.

How it shows up on video

It is visible on video by how late the batter squares. This means the bat should still be back well past the point a sacrifice would have shown itself. Placement quality is the key outcome metric: chart where the bunted ball lands relative to the foul line and the fielder's reach range. A successful one shows the fielder collecting the ball well down the line, more than 60 feet from home, or forced into an off-balance throw.

Common mistakes

Squaring too early, giving the corner defender time to charge and field the ball in a comfortable throwing position
Bunting the ball too hard down the line, producing a ball that rolls into foul territory rather than staying in fair territory near the line
Choosing the wrong pitch — attacking a rise ball above the belt rather than waiting for something lower with a better angle
Not using speed as a weapon — the hitter has to explode out of the box at contact rather than pausing to confirm direction
