Also known as: 弹跳判读, 判断弹地
Start your read at the bat, not at the dirt. The angle the ball leaves the barrel already tells you whether it will skid low or bite and jump. That head start is worth more than quick hands.
Watch the spin, not the ball. A grounder with heavy topspin bites and shoots forward off the surface, while a sliced or cut ball tends to skid and stay down. Reading rotation in the first few feet is what lets a fielder pre-set glove height instead of reacting to the last bounce.
Example
Why it matters
How it shows up on video
Good reads show small, controlled adjustment strides in the final approach — a slight gather to close early, or a check-step to let the ball climb. Poor reads show a fielder frozen or lunging at the last instant because the correction came too late.
Common mistakes
- Watching the general fielding zone instead of tracking the ball's rotation and angle off the surface in the final strides
- Freezing rather than adjusting once the arrival looks awkward
- Standing too upright through the approach, which removes the ability to make late glove-height corrections
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
SwingVantage Motion Lab reviews footwork adjustments in the final strides before a fielding rep, showing whether corrections are happening early enough to stay under control.
Frequently asked questions
