码数间隔
码数间隔是指球包中相邻球杆之间的距离差异。均匀、一致的间隔(通常每支球杆之间10到15码)能最大程度减少没有任何一支球杆能覆盖某个特定距离的情况。
码数间隔是指球手球包中相邻球杆之间的距离增量——每支球杆相对于下一支较短球杆多提供的距离。标准的整套球杆设计上会在每支铁杆之间产生10到15码的间隔,不过实际间隔取决于球手的挥杆速度、杆身特性和具体的球杆设计。当间隔一致时(例如,每支球杆之间相差10到12码),球手可以做出简单明了的选杆;当间隔不一致时(例如,两支球杆打出相同的距离,或某支球杆打得比预期远得多),决策过程会变得更复杂,某些距离可能根本无法精确打到。

Spend one range session with a GPS app or hitting to known-distance markers and record your average carry for each iron and each wedge at full swing. Write down these numbers. This 30-minute investment is the most important equipment knowledge a golfer can have. This means it transforms every on-course club selection from guessing to a simple number lookup.
Develop a "three-swing wedge system" for precise distance control. This means for each wedge, hit 10 balls at full, 3/4, and 1/2 swing and record the average carry for each. This gives you 12 calibrated distances (4 wedges x 3 swing lengths) covering the 30–120 yard range with 10–15 yard increments. Post these numbers in a spreadsheet, put the cheat sheet in your bag, and you will have eliminated distance guessing from your short game entirely.

How it shows up on video
Yardage gaps are measured through shot data rather than observable in video. But shot selection patterns and distance outcomes visible in on-course video can reveal gap issues. A golfer who frequently has a distance that seems to call for "something between" their clubs, or who reliably plays either by a lot long or short from specific yardage zones, may have a gap problem worth investigating with a distance-measurement session.
Common mistakes
- Assuming stock wedge combinations cover all needed distances — the standard pitching wedge plus sand wedge combination leaves a large gap that many manufacturers address differently. Measure your actual wedge distances to confirm there are no significant uncovered zones in your scoring range.
- Buying wedges based on the loft number without testing distance. This means a 52° gap wedge from one manufacturer may cover a very different distance range than a 52° from another due to head design, shaft, and length differences. Measure the actual distances before finalizing a wedge configuration.
- Not calibrating partial-swing distances — even with ideal full-swing gaps, partial-swing distances (50% and 75%) are needed for precision short game. Not knowing these produces yardage gaps in the 50–100 yard range regardless of how well the full set is gapped.
- Changing clubs without re-checking gaps — when irons or wedges are replaced, the new set may have different gaps than the old one. Gap verification should be part of every club change.
