首球好球率是投手在打席的第一球就投出好球的比例,是衡量投手整体投球效率和主导球数能力最有力的单一指标之一。
抢先取得0比1的领先会极大地把打席后续的形势导向投手一方,因为击球员此时必须防守整个好球带,而不能只等待自己偏好的球种或落点。首球好球率高的投手通常整体打击率更低、保送更少,因为这种战略优势会随着球数的推进不断累积。教练之所以专门追踪这项数据,是因为它能单独反映投手在不受对手实力影响的情况下,以可控状态开局打席的能力。
