读投手

Watch the first two or three at-bats from the dugout and look for a single consistent difference between the pitcher's fastest and slowest pitches. This means one tell is enough to build your timing advantage.
Create a mental checklist of four specific pitcher checkpoints to observe. This means release point height, wrist position at the top of the circle, hip speed, and head tilt. This means and systematically check each one across early at-bats to identify which provides the most reliable advance read.

Compare the runner's lead timing on at-bats where they successfully stole versus failed attempts. This means successful steals will show the first step synchronized with a tell the runner identified. Body language in the dugout between innings of an observing runner is not visible on film but represents the real-time intelligence-building process.

- Reading the pitcher from the wrong angle. This means first base only provides a front-on view. At the same time, the dugout provides a side-angle view that reveals delivery tempo differences more clearly
- Identifying a tell in the first two at-bats and over-committing to it without confirming whether the pitcher has noticed and corrected it
- Confusing pitch tempo variation caused by catcher signals with a pitcher tell, leading to misread lead timing
- Not sharing pitcher-read intelligence with teammates so each base runner has to rediscover the same information on its own
