盗垒
盗垒是指跑垒员在投球过程中凭自身主动推进到下一个垒包，依靠一个良好的起跑、读出投手的出手，以及比捕手爆发时间更快的速度。

Focus on getting your first step to the next base in the exact moment the pitcher's wrist passes the hip. This means that precise timing gives you the maximum legal jump without risking an early-leave call.
Study each opposing pitcher's release tempo from at-bat observations and build a pitch-count mental model of when they tend to work faster versus slower. This means targeting a steal during a slower tempo pitch increases your success probability without changing your own mechanics.

Track the runner's foot lift relative to the pitcher's release frame. This means a legal and well-timed lead shows the first step beginning exactly at release, not a moment before or after. Compare the runner's starting position on stolen-base attempts versus non-steal pitches to see if there is a tip-off in their pre-pitch body position. The catcher's pop time from the receiving film combined with the runner's lead quality and sprint speed determines the outcome margin.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the base before the pitcher releases — drawing an out call for leaving early rather than successfully stealing the base
- Getting a perfect jump but taking a poor running angle. This adds distance to the 60-foot sprint rather than running the most direct path to the next bag
- Stealing against a catcher with elite pop time without adjusting for the increased margin needed in timing and lead quality
- Not adjusting the steal plan after a failed attempt. This means using the same lead and timing pattern on a second attempt against the same catcher and pitcher
