Posisyon ng Bola

Definition

Beginner tip

For a quick ball-position reference: iron shots — center of your stance; fairway woods — one ball-width forward of center; driver — opposite your lead heel. Check this at address by looking down at your lead heel and confirming the ball is at the right reference point before every practice session.

Advanced note

Optimize ball position per-club using launch monitor data. This means hit five shots each from ball position slightly forward, center, and slightly back for each of your key clubs (driver, 6-iron, pitching wedge) and compare launch angle, spin, and ball speed to find the position that optimizes your personal impact conditions. This may differ slightly from the standard guidelines based on your attack angle and swing traits.

Example

How it shows up on video

Ball position is observable from a face-on camera angle by noting where the ball falls relative to the lead heel and center of the stance, and from a down-the-line angle by confirming the club face is square at the specific address position chosen. Impact conditions that indicate ball-position errors. This means a divot starting well before the ball (too far forward for the swing arc) or a thin shot with no divot (ball too far forward, contact on the upswing with an iron), or a very steep divot angle (ball too far back, excessive descending blow). Face-on video of the address position provides the most direct ball-position check.

Common mistakes

  • Playing driver from the center of the stance. This means a center-positioned driver ball produces a downward angle of attack. This reduces launch and increasing spin, both of which cost distance. Driver ball position should be forward (opposite the lead heel) to promote the ascending blow that maximizes distance.
  • Playing all irons from the same ball position — different irons require different positions because the attack angle, loft, and required compression differ. One-size-fits-all ball position requires swing compensations for clubs where the single position is wrong.
  • Compensating for a mispositioned ball with swing adjustments — a ball too far back is often compensated by delaying the release; too far forward by flipping. These compensations mask the real problem and make diagnosing the swing more difficult.
  • Setting ball position inconsistently between practice and on-course. This means many golfers use alignment sticks and take care with ball position on the range but set up by feel on the course. Without a consistent reference point in the pre-shot routine, ball position varies widely.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage observes ball position from face-on video at the address position, noting where the ball falls relative to visible landmarks (lead heel, center of stance) and flagging positions that are likely to produce specific impact errors based on the established ball-position guidelines. These observations are context-specific to the club being used when identifiable from video.
