Pagbaluktot ng Tuhod

Definition

Beginner tip

For a quick knee flex calibration: at address, you should be able to wiggle your toes inside your shoes. If you can't, your weight is too far back on your heels or you are too stiff. If the ground feels too close to your feet, you may be squatting too much. The "wiggle test" is a simple proprioceptive check for balanced athletic knee flex.

Advanced note

Use a mirror or video to check early extension in particular. This means place a horizontal reference line at your hip height at address, then swing and check whether your hips are at, above, or below that line at impact. Any upward movement of the hips from the reference line at impact is early extension. This means quantifying how much helps prioritize whether this is a minor or major issue in your swing.

Example

How it shows up on video

From a face-on camera angle, knee flex is visible at address as the slight forward angle of the shins from perpendicular to the ground. Insufficient knee flex shows the legs appearing nearly straight from address; excessive flex looks like a squat. From a down-the-line angle, the knee flex contributes to the overall posture picture. During the swing, knee flex maintenance is visible from face-on. This means early extension shows the knees straightening and the body rising through the impact zone. At the same time, maintained flex shows a consistent body height through impact.

Common mistakes

  • Too much knee flex (over-squatting) — excessive knee flex restricts hip rotation and produces a heavy, sluggish feeling through the swing. The goal is athletic readiness, not a squat position.
  • Too little knee flex (standing too tall). This means a straight-legged address position creates a stiff, inflexible setup that restricts body rotation and makes dynamic movement through the swing much more difficult.
  • Losing knee flex through impact (early extension) — the most damaging knee-flex fault. Straightening the legs at impact forces the body to stand up and move the swing arc away from the ball. This produces thin, blocked, or flipped shots.
  • Only checking knee flex at address without monitoring it through the swing. This means the flex established at address means nothing if it is lost in the backswing or downswing. Video or coaching feedback during the swing is needed to confirm flex is maintained.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage observes knee flex from face-on video at address (to establish baseline flex) and through the swing (to identify early extension or other changes). The system can flag early extension patterns from face-on footage and compare body height at impact to body height at address to detect straightening. Confidence labels reflect the visibility of the lower body in available video.
