Perpindahan Berat Badan

Also known as: weight shift, pressure transfer

Definition

Beginner tip

Check your finish. This means if you can hold your finish position with nearly all your weight on your lead leg and your trail foot balanced on its toes for three full seconds, your weight transfer is likely correct. This means an inability to hold this position suggests you are hanging back through impact.

Advanced note

Use foot pressure feedback (a towel under the trail heel in the backswing) to exaggerate trail-foot loading. This means the towel should stay compressed under the heel through the top of the backswing, then lift as you shift forward. This means if the towel never compresses, you are not loading the trail side effectively.

Example

How it shows up on video

From a face-on camera angle, weight transfer is visible through several indicators. This means the trail heel lifting off the ground during the downswing (indicating shift to the lead side), the body's center of mass moving toward the target through impact. The finish position with the trail foot balanced on its toe. At the same time, nearly all weight rests on the lead leg. A reverse pivot shows opposite movement. This means the lead hip moves backward in the backswing. The golfer leans toward the target in the backswing rather than loading the trail side.

Common mistakes

  • Lateral sliding instead of rotating — confusing weight transfer with a full lateral slide of the hips. Effective weight transfer combines a slight lateral shift with rotation; a pure slide moves weight but kills rotational power.
  • Reverse pivoting — loading the lead foot in the backswing and falling back onto the trail foot in the downswing. This backward weight pattern is one of the most power-robbing faults in golf and produces a flip at impact.
  • Not completing the transfer (hanging back) — failing to fully shift to the lead side through impact. Golfers who hang back compensate with their hands, producing flips, hooks, or high, weak shots.
  • Consciously trying to shift laterally rather than letting rotation drive the transfer. This means the best weight transfer happens as a consequence of proper hip rotation and ground engagement, not as a separate, deliberate lateral slide.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage tracks weight transfer indicators from face-on video by observing the trail heel lift, lateral body movement toward the target through impact, and finish balance. The system identifies reverse pivot patterns and incomplete transfers (trail heel remaining flat through impact), with observations labeled by confidence based on video quality.
