Pukulan Sisi Tarik

Also known as: pull hitter, pulling the ball

Definition

Beginner tip

Practice deliberately going the other way on outside pitches to break the habit of pulling everything. This means even five opposite-field balls per practice session rewires the tendency over time.

Advanced note

Review your spray chart and identify your pull percentage by pitch location. This means if you pull 90 percent or more of outside pitches, you are giving defenses a free alignment advantage that costs you hits every game.

Example

How it shows up on video

Track the contact point relative to the front edge of the plate. This means pull hitters reliably make contact 6 to 12 inches ahead of the plate on all pitch locations, including outside ones. Watch the barrel direction at contact. This means a pull swing has the barrel angled toward the pull-side foul line. At the same time, a neutral or opposite-field swing has the barrel facing straight ahead. On video, look for early hand commitment where the hands begin moving before the pitcher's arm completes its delivery.

Common mistakes

  • Pulling every pitch regardless of location, producing weak rollovers on outside pitches rather than hitting the ball to the opposite field
  • Opening the hips too early on the load in an attempt to pull the ball, causing the hitter to spin out and lose power
  • Ignoring defensive shifts and continuing to pull into the overloaded side when the opposite field is wide open for easy singles
  • Confusing pulling with power — outside pitches pulled produce the weakest contact, not the hardest

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage maps spray angle from uploaded hit video, identifying whether the hitter is a dead pull, straightaway, or all-fields hitter and correlating pull tendency with defensive positioning vulnerabilities.
