Tenaga Rotasi

Also known as: rotational hitting, hip-to-hand power

Definition

Beginner tip

Practice the hip-bump-then-turn drill. This means push your front hip toward the pitcher first, then rotate it back aggressively. This means this two-step feel builds the correct sequential firing pattern.

Advanced note

Use a resistance band anchored at hip height behind you during dry swings to feel the load against the band and then release it explosively. This means this trains explosive hip initiation as a muscle-memory habit.

Example

Why it matters

How it shows up on video

Watch the belt buckle's facing direction at contact — it should be pointing at or slightly past the pitcher, indicating full hip rotation. A front-on camera view shows whether the hips fire on its own before the shoulders, confirming the correct sequence. Hips that face the pitcher at contact alongside shoulders that also face the pitcher indicate the body is rotating as a single unit rather than in the ideal hip-first sequence.

Common mistakes

  • Starting the swing by pulling the hands rather than firing the hips, which produces an arm-dominant swing with 30 to 40 percent less power
  • Opening the hips too early in the load phase — spinning out before contact — causing the barrel to drag behind the rotating body
  • Using a wide stance that restricts hip rotation, limiting the total degrees of turn available through the swing
  • Collapsing the front knee inward during rotation rather than firming up the front side, which bleeds rotational energy before the barrel reaches the ball

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage tracks the hip rotation sequence frame-by-frame to measure the hip-to-shoulder separation angle and flag swings where the hips and shoulders rotate at the same time rather than in the correct sequential order.
