Dobre pudło

Also known as: miss it here, akceptowalne pudło

Definition

Beginner tip

For every approach shot to a green, ask one question before selecting your target. This means "If I miss this shot. This direction is safer. This means left or right?" Aim. As a result, your natural miss direction goes toward the safer side, even if it means your perfect shot lands slightly away from the pin. This one adjustment typically saves 1–2 strokes per round immediately.

Advanced note

Over 10 rounds, track not just where your shots land but also whether they landed in your pre-planned good-miss zone or in the danger zone. If more than 30% of misses go into the danger zone despite good-miss planning, either your aim needs adjustment, your miss tendency has changed, or the routine is not reliably building in the good-miss alignment before each shot.

Example

How it shows up on video

Good-miss management is a strategic concept rather than a observable swing trait, but video of on-course play can reveal whether a golfer is implementing it. Consistent misses in the safe zones of targets (versus penalty areas) over multiple holes suggest good-miss planning. Consistent misses in trouble areas despite good swings suggest alignment or course management adjustment is needed.

Common mistakes

  • Planning to execute perfectly instead of planning for a realistic miss. This means hoping for a perfect shot is not the same as planning for the realistic range of outcomes. Every shot plan should include "if I miss this way, where does the ball go, and is that acceptable?"
  • Using the same good-miss direction for every hole regardless of the specific layout. This means the good-miss direction changes with every shot based on where trouble is positioned. A right miss might be safe on one hole and catastrophic on the next.
  • Changing aim and then changing it back at the last moment. This means committing to a good-miss alignment requires accepting that the primary aim has shifted from the ideal. Golfers who "correct" their aim back to the ideal during the swing undermine the entire good-miss strategy.
  • Not identifying the good-miss direction during the pre-shot routine — good-miss analysis should be part of shot planning, not an afterthought. Building "where is safe to miss?" into the routine ensures it is reliably considered.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage notes good-miss context when on-course video includes identifiable hole layouts and target positions. The system can observe whether the golfer's actual misses reliably land in the pre-planned safe zones versus trouble areas. This provides feedback on whether good-miss planning is translating into course performance.
