Wyczucie Czasu Kroku
W slow-pitch łuk piłki daje odbijającej 1,0 do 1,5 sekundy czasu w powietrzu — więcej niż wystarczająco, by zrobić krok, wylądować i poczekać przed wystrzeleniem.
Tips by skill level
Count "one-two" as the ball arcs. Stride on "one" (as the ball rises toward its peak) and swing on "two" (as the ball descends into the zone). The deliberate mental separation between the stride and the swing is a direct way to fix a lunging habit.
Calibrate your stride timing to the arc's peak specifically. The front foot should be down by the time the ball reaches its highest point, not after. Striding to the peak gives the maximum waiting time for the hands — which translates directly to more hip rotation and contact quality.
Example
Why it matters
Wyczucie czasu kroku to mechaniczny korzeń mocy w slow-pitch. Odbijające, które robią to dobrze, generują separację biodro-bark i energię rotacyjną; odbijające, które wypadają — krokując i swingując jednocześnie — produkują pop-upy i słabe grondery, niezależnie od jakości pałki czy swingu.
How it shows up on video
Watch the front foot from a side-view camera. At the moment the hands begin to move, is the front foot planted and stable? If yes, stride timing is correct. If the foot is still landing or the stride and swing are happening at the same time, it is a lunge — the most common slow-pitch mechanical fault.
Common mistakes
- Lunging — taking the stride and starting the swing as a simultaneous motion rather than planting the front foot first and then firing the hands.
- Striding too late. As a result, the foot lands at the same time as the ball enters the contact zone — no time for the hands to wait, no hip-shoulder separation, no power.
- Overstriding to try to generate more reach. This shifts the center of mass forward and causes the weight to continue moving forward through contact rather than rotating into it.
- Letting the front hip open with the stride rather than keeping the hip closed until the swing — opening the front hip early bleeds rotational energy before the swing begins.
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
SwingVantage reads the timing relationship between your stride landing and your swing initiation, identifying the gap between foot plant and hand movement that creates hip-shoulder separation. A narrow gap signals a lunge; a wider gap signals proper separation.
Open Slow-Pitch Softball in Motion LabFrequently asked questions
Why is lunging so common in slow pitch?
The brain perceives the long arc and instinctively wants to match the ball's flight time with a full-body commitment. It feels wrong to have the foot planted while the ball is still on its way — it seems too early. But slow pitch is the rare hitting context where that early commitment is exactly correct.
Should my stride length change based on the arc height?
Slightly — against a very high arc (near 10 feet), you have more time and can afford a fuller stride. Against a lower arc (near 6 feet), the descent is faster and requires either a shorter stride or an earlier trigger to avoid arriving too late.

- Punkt KontaktuPunkt kontaktu to miejsce, gdzie pałka spotyka piłkę względem twojego ciała.
- ŁukThe arc is the high, looping flight path a legal slow-pitch delivery must follow. USA Softball requires a peak between 6 and 10 feet (12 feet in senior play). USSSA instead requires at least 3 feet of arc above the release point and caps height at 10 feet above the ground. Hitters time their swing to the ball's descent, not its rise.
- Separacja bioder względem barkówSeparacja bioder względem barków to różnica w rotacji między biodrami a barkami podczas swingu. Biodra strzelają pierwsze, podczas gdy barki pozostają z tyłu, tworząc zmagazynowany moment obrotowy, który wychłostuje kij.
