方向角

方向角是指球离开球棒后运动的水平方向——拉打方向、正中，还是反方向——由挥棒过程中棒头与球相遇的时机所决定。
方向角是发射角度在水平层面的对应指标。发射角度描述的是垂直方向的离开角度，而方向角描述的是水平方向。拉打意味着接触发生在挥棒较早的阶段，此时棒头仍在朝拉打方向穿过身体移动。打向反方向意味着接触发生得较晚，是在棒头已经深入打击区之后。而打向正中的接触，介于这两点之间，此时挥棒路径与投球轨迹最接近垂直相交。
方向角同时受投球落点和挥棒时机的共同影响。一颗外角投球有利于反方向接触；一颗内角投球有利于早触球、拉打方向。一名把所有球都拉打——包括外角投球——的打者，说明他普遍触球过早，这通常意味着触发时机略快，或存在“由内而外”的力学问题。一名总是把球打向反方向的打者，可能等待时间过长，或延展不佳。方向角的模式，比任何单次挥棒都更清楚地揭示这些倾向。

Practice tracking the pitch location before you swing and letting that guide where you try to hit it. A pitch at the outside corner is asking to be hit to the opposite field — let the pitch dictate the direction, not your pull instinct.
Track your spray angle by pitch zone: do you naturally go the other way on outer-third pitches? If your spray angle is nearly identical whether the pitch is inner-third or outer-third, your barrel timing is not adjusting to pitch location. This means a sign of mechanical lock-in rather than adaptive hitting.

Why it matters

How it shows up on video
From a standard behind-the-plate or first-base-side camera, note whether the barrel contacts the ball in front of the hip (pull contact), even with the hip (middle contact), or behind the hip (opposite-field contact). A hitter who always contacts in front — even on outer-third pitches — is too early. One whose contact point is reliably even or behind — even on inner-third pitches — is late. The contact-point location relative to the hip is the clearest video proxy for spray angle tendency.
Common mistakes
- Pulling everything out of habit rather than reading pitch location and adjusting. Pull tendency on outside pitches is one of the most correctable timing faults.
- Assuming going the other way means a weak, defensive approach. Hard opposite-field contact on outside pitches is an advanced offensive skill, not a concession.
- Chasing spray angle data without connecting it to contact timing. The fix for an extreme pull spray is almost always a timing adjustment, not a swing-path change.
- Treating spray angle as fixed when it should vary with pitch location — pitches in produce pull, pitches away should produce middle or opposite-field contact.
