COR(弹性系数)

Also known as: 弹性系数

Definition

Beginner tip

Before your first at-bat at a new field or in a new league, take note of how far your warm-up hits carry compared with your regular field. A shorter carry on good contact is a COR and compression signal — recalibrate your expectations before swinging for the fences.

Advanced note

When preparing for a tournament, confirm the exact ball model to be used — not just the association's COR standard. Ball brands within the same COR class can perform slightly differently. Teams that have hit specific models in practice have a small advantage in knowing what each exit velocity translates to in carry distance.

Example

Why it matters

How it shows up on video

COR is not directly observable from video, but its effect on exit velocity relative to bat speed is. A consistent hitter who suddenly shows reduced carry on squared-up balls when switching competitions likely encountered a COR change, not a mechanical breakdown.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming COR is the same across all "approved" ball lists. This means different associations have different COR standards. A USA Softball-approved ball may have a different COR than a USSSA-approved ball.
  • Confusing COR with compression — COR measures energy return ratio; compression measures deformation force. They are related but separate properties, and both are regulated.
  • Adjusting swing mechanics to compensate for reduced carry in a new league without first confirming the ball specification. This means a lower-COR ball requires no mechanical change, just recalibrated distance expectations.
  • Using a ball within a legal COR range from one association at an event governed by another — the legal range may not overlap.

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage tracks exit velocity against measured bat speed. A consistent drop in exit velocity on well-struck balls when competing at a different venue can indicate a COR difference from the practice environment rather than a mechanical issue.

Frequently asked questions
