Casting the Hands

Shorten the path to the ball. Work knob-to-ball connection drills this week, then layer in tee work on the outer third to feel the barrel staying inside.

Priority Drills

Back-to-the-Screen Drill

Eliminate bat casting by keeping the knob to the ball path

1
  1. 1.Stand with your back to a fence or batting cage screen, 6-8 inches away
  2. 2.Take your normal stance and begin the swing
  3. 3.The bat should NOT hit the screen on the backswing or early downswing
  4. 4.If the barrel hits the screen, you are casting — the screen provides immediate feedback
3 sets of 15 tee swingsFeel: Feel your hands staying close — knob leading, barrel dragging. Watch examples

Hip-Fire Tee Drill

Train explosive hip rotation through the contact zone

2
  1. 1.Set tee at belt height — center of the plate
  2. 2.Take your normal stance and load
  3. 3.On the swing, consciously think "hip-shoulder-hands" in that sequence
  4. 4."Squish the bug" with your back foot as hips fire
3 sets of 20 — hold finish 2 seconds eachFeel: Feel your back hip driving through — squish the bug, belt to the pitcher. Watch examples

Soft Stride — Stay Back Drill

Train a controlled soft stride without shifting weight forward

3
  1. 1.Place a cone or line at your normal stride landing spot
  2. 2.Practice the load and stride without swinging — focus on soft landing
  3. 3.Your front foot lands softly, heel-first, while hands stay back
  4. 4.Feel 60% of your weight on your back leg at landing
3 sets of 20 stride-only reps, then 20 tee swingsFeel: Stride feels like stepping on a scale — gentle, controlled, not a fall forward. Watch examples

Your 7-Day Plan

Day 1Understand the fix — slow reps grooving the feel of correcting "casting the hands".
Day 2Back-to-the-Screen Drill — block practice, quality over quantity.
Day 3Back-to-the-Screen Drill at full speed, then add Hip-Fire Tee Drill.
Day 4Hip-Fire Tee Drill — build it into a repeatable pattern.
Day 5Soft Stride — Stay Back Drill — integrate the new feel into normal swings.
Day 6Pressure practice — random reps and a small game/scoring challenge.
Day 7Re-film and retest. Compare against today to confirm the change is sticking.
