Roll Shot (golpe liftado)

Also known as: roll con topspin, roll descendente

Definition

Beginner tip

Think of the roll shot as hitting the bottom half of the ball with your paddle face brushing upward. This means the image of brushing the underside produces the low-to-high path on its own.

Advanced note

Time your roll shot to land at the shoelace zone of an opponent who is still one or two steps from the kitchen line. This is the moment they have the least ability to reset cleanly.

Example

How it shows up on video

SwingVantage measures the steepness of the low-to-high swing path angle from mid-court contact, confirming whether topspin was genuinely produced or the shot was a flat drive that happened to dip due to pace. Landing zone depth and bounce height are cross-referenced against spin data.

Common mistakes

  • Using a flat swing path instead of a low-to-high brush, producing a drive that lacks the dipping effect
  • Hitting the roll shot from inside the kitchen transition when a dink would be safer and more controlled
  • Targeting the body rather than the feet, allowing the opponent to block with a full arm swing
  • Over-spinning the ball with insufficient forward pace, causing it to drop into the net before crossing

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

Motion Lab tracks the arm elevation angle through the swing and the wrist brush direction, confirming genuine topspin generation rather than a steeper flat drive. The system flags roll-shot attempts where the swing angle was too shallow to produce a meaningful dip.
