Jalur Ayunan

Also known as: bat path, barrel path

Definition

Beginner tip

Think of swinging on a slightly downward plane into the ball and then feeling the barrel "level off" through contact. This means this produces the consistent line-drive contact that maximizes hitting percentage.

Advanced note

Film your swing from dead-on side view and draw a line on the barrel path from early downswing to follow-through. The line should show a shallow bowl shape, not a sharp V or a steep ramp.

Example

Video kecepatan tinggi menunjukkan barrel pemukul turun 25 derajat di bawah jalur bola, menghasilkan pop-up lemah; menyesuaikan menjadi jalur menanjak 10 derajat menghasilkan line drive yang solid.

Why it matters

How it shows up on video

From a side-on camera angle, the ideal slow-pitch swing path shows the barrel entering the hitting zone on a slight downward angle (10 to 15 degrees) and then leveling through the contact point before continuing upward through the follow-through. A clear upper-cut shows the barrel dipping well below the hands before rising steeply to meet the ball. An overly steep downward chop shows the barrel dropping sharply then pulling up, producing top-spin grounders rather than line drives.

Common mistakes

  • Uppercutting aggressively in search of home-run distance, producing a steep launch angle that creates fly-outs rather than line drives over the heads of outfielders
  • Chopping down on the ball in an attempt to hit line drives. This creates topspin that makes the ball die into the infield grass rather than carry through the gaps
  • Matching the swing path to the incoming arc of the pitch rather than staying level through the contact zone. This causes the barrel to track the ball's descent too early
  • Not adjusting swing path for the arc height. This means a high-arc pitch requires a slightly steeper entry angle than a low-arc pitch to produce the same contact point

In SwingVantage Motion Lab

SwingVantage measures the bat path angle through the contact zone from side-on video, identifying upcut, level, and downward-chop swing paths and correlating each with typical ball-flight outcomes for coaching feedback.

Frequently asked questions
