라인업 전략은 득점 생산을 극대화하기 위해 타순을 의도적으로 구성하는 것이다 — 상위 타순의 출루 능력과 중심 타순의 파워, 그리고 전체적인 콘택트 신뢰성을 결합한다.
최고의 타자를 최적의 자리에 배치하는 것을 넘어, 고급 슬로피치 라인업 전략은 다음을 고려한다: 특정 투수를 상대로 한 좌우 밸런스, 파워 타자가 볼넷으로 회피되지 않도록 보호하는 것, 최고의 타자에게 가장 많은 타석을 주기 위한 추가 타자(EH) 배치, 그리고 9번 타자가 2회 랠리를 위해 효과적으로 선두 타자 역할을 하도록 하는 것이다. 무제한 교체가 가능한 리그에서는 감독이 특정 성향을 상대로 타자를 넣고 빼기도 한다. 잘 구성된 라인업은 순서가 엉성한 라인업보다 경기당 여러 점수의 가치를 가진다.
Start with the simple principle. This means put players who get on base at the top, players who drive them in in the middle, and round out the bottom with remaining contributors.
In slow-pitch, the extra hitter (EH) spot in 10-player formats adds complexity. This means use it to slot an additional power bat or specialist rather than defaulting to it as a courtesy spot.

- Writing a lineup based on seniority or politics rather than each player's true statistical tendencies and abilities
- Not accounting for how the lineup turns over — your bottom-of-the-order hitters will lead off an inning multiple times per game
- Failing to slot your best two-strike hitter in high-leverage positions where protecting the plate matters most
- Not adjusting the lineup based on which opposing defenders have weak arms or poor range that can be exploited
