How it shows up on video

Batters who crowd the plate shift the legal zone interpretation; video helps coaches identify pitches that reliably miss the mat in a particular direction.
Common mistakes
- Aiming only for the center of the mat rather than exploiting the front-to-back depth. This misses the opportunity to change the descent angle the batter faces
- Not adjusting mat-targeting based on the batter's height and stance, since shorter batters may legitimately argue that a back-corner landing pitch is above their shoulders
- Ignoring which quadrant of the mat the pitcher tends to miss in practice and carrying that miss into game situations without correction
- Batters not learning which pitchers reliably land in the back corners and adjusting their load timing accordingly
