Hit and Run

Definition

O hit and run é uma jogada ofensiva em que a corredora dispara para a próxima base no arremesso, comprometendo a defesa, enquanto a rebatedora faz contato para colocar a bola em jogo e proteger a corredora que está correndo.

Diferente de um roubo puro, o hit and run exige que a rebatedora rebata o arremesso independentemente da sua qualidade, porque a corredora já está comprometida. A rebatedora tenta colocar a bola no chão ou pelo vão de infield deixado pela infielder do meio que se moveu para cobrir a base. Watch for the middle infielder moving to cover the steal, creating the defensive hole the batter must exploit.

The hitter not swinging at a bad pitch. This is because they forgot or chose not to protect the running runner. This turns the hit-and-run into a stolen base attempt with an exposed baserunner
The runner breaking before confirming the pitch is in a hittable location, making it a hit-and-run on an unhittable pitch with no defensive advantage
The hitter swinging upward instead of down-and-through, producing a fly ball that allows the defense to double off the runner
Not having a verbal or visual confirmation signal that both hitter and runner correctly received the hit-and-run call
