三振率
Also known as: K%,
Before working on reducing your strikeout rate, track your last 20 strikeouts and categorise each as a chase, a swing-and-miss in the zone, or a called strike. This means the category with the most strikeouts tells you where your training effort will have the most impact.
Use your SwingVantage session data to build a K-rate breakdown by pitch type and map the result against your swing mechanics on those specific pitches. This means the combination of outcome data and mechanical data is the fastest path to identifying whether a training intervention should target pitch recognition, swing path, or approach strategy.
Example
Why it matters
How it shows up on video
On video, strikeout causes are visible in the swing decision and mechanics across K outcomes. This means chases on breaking balls out of the zone reveal recognition causes, swings that miss on pitches in the zone by passing over or under reveal mechanical causes, and strikeouts on called third strikes in hittable counts reveal approach causes. Common mechanical errors that drive strikeout rate include a casting barrel path that cannot reach inside pitches before the contact window closes, a long loop that exits the pitch plane too quickly on off-speed pitches. A steep downward approach on high fastballs that produces swings under the ball rather than through it.
Common mistakes
- Attempting to reduce strikeout rate by shortening the swing before diagnosing whether the cause is mechanical, recognition, or approach. This means a shorter swing on a recognition-caused K problem produces weak grounders on the same bad pitches rather than clean takes
- Accepting a high strikeout rate as a fixed cost of a power profile without analysing whether the strikeouts are on pitches where a recognition or approach improvement would produce better outcomes without sacrificing power
- Using two-strike approach adjustments as the universal K-rate fix when most strikeouts occur before two strikes. This means the approach for 0-2 and 1-2 counts is only relevant if a significant portion of Ks are happening in those specific counts
- Treating all swing-and-miss strikeouts as equivalent without breaking them down by pitch type and location to identify whether the miss pattern is random or systematically targeting specific mechanical weaknesses
In SwingVantage Motion Lab
SwingVantage classifies each strikeout outcome by cause. This means chase on out-of-zone pitch, swing-and-miss on in-zone pitch, or called strike. This means and further classifies in-zone misses by whether the barrel path or timing was the mechanical failure. The result is a K-rate breakdown by root cause that converts a single aggregate statistic into three separate training priorities with different corrective approaches.
