For most players swinging under 90 mph, a higher setting — 10.5° or 12° — produces more distance than a lower one. If you play 9°. This is because it "sounds" more serious, test 10.5° and 12° on a monitor. This means the extra angle probably launches better and goes further at your speed.
Use a monitor to find your "spin floor": hit ten drives and note the lowest spin rate your current setting can produce. Reliably above 2,500 rpm means you are over-spinning and probably want less. Reliably below 1,800 rpm means the opposite, or a more ascending strike. Spin optimization is worth at least 10–15 yards for most golfers.

How it shows up on video
The setting itself is not observable from video. But its effects on trajectory are. This means too little produces either a low, boring drive with plenty of run. This can be efficient, or a low, spinny one that falls out of the sky. This is not. Too much produces a high, soft drive that gives up wind penetration and run-out. From a face-on setup view the angle is visible against vertical, though telling 9° from 10.5° needs a proper measurement.
Common mistakes
- Dropping to a weaker setting to "hit it lower". This means that cuts launch and spin together, and for a player already striking down it can hurt distance by launching too low with too little spin to hold the flight.
- Ignoring attack angle when choosing — the usual "slower swingers need more" advice is an oversimplification. Attack angle matters as much as swing speed. A slow swing hitting sharply up may want less than a fast one hitting steeply down.
- Assuming the stamp is what you get — most heads adjust ±2°, and the effective figure shifts with shaft tip load and head design. A "10.5°" head set to the "+" position might deliver 11.5° or more to a slow-tempo player.
- Choosing on feel rather than data — this is an objective measurement with measurable consequences. Comparing two or three options on a monitor produces something far more reliable than feel.
